My first full colored illustration of 2011. A piece meant to represent optimism, courage and hope. This is how I wish to be, not just regarding my art as a career, but my life in general. The girl in this picture is an original character I created back in 2003-2004. Her name is Satsumi, pronounced Saht-sue-me. Her history and personality has undergone some revisions since then, of course, but she still represents the innocence and optimism I had as a child, and the kind I am looking for as an adult. In a way, she is like a self-reflection of myself.
This was drawn and colored on the computer via tablet, in the program openCanvas4.5.17. It took me an estimate of 4 hours to complete start to finish. Reference was used for her right hand.

If I thought Sera was impressive, this one is really good :). The suggestion of veins in the arm at her side really gives it three dimensions, and the shadow on her back goes a long way to creating your perspective. The right leg feels a tad flat it could be my eyes. The shading on it goes to a pretty straight edge and I think that is what I'm seeing (even if I suck at art critique.
ReplyDeleteOtherwise, your careful lines to give the skirt motion and the same for the sleeve are great. The hair and headband look wonderful.
So really, it's all more my opinion than critique ><..
I think Satsumi is a good drawing that has a message everyone can relate to which is a hard thing to do for an artist of any type. Keep up the great work!
